Thanks for the lyrics to the song that my dear ole dad used to sing to me when i was wee. Now i have another hardie... Does anybody know who sang and what this lullabye is called...another that i remember from many years ago. Lilac trees are bloomin in the corner by the gate Mammys in her little wooden shed Curly headed picanniny comin home so late Cryin cause his little heart is sore. All the children in the street have skin so white and fair None of them with him will ever play So mammy in her lap Takes the little weeping chap And says in her own kind way 'Now honey you stay in your own backyard, Don't mind what those white childs say, What do you think they're gonna do To a little black coon like you? So stay on this side of the high board fence And honey don't you cry so hard Go out and play just as much as you please But stay in your own backyard' It has such a beautiful tune that is great to lilt and play with and my son loves it. Any ideas??
