The DNA evidence only shows that Cora was not her "mother's" daughter. In complex families in the Victorian era, this was actually very common- children were often brought up by other family members when orphaned or abandoned, and this fact would not necessarily be revealed to them, especially if some touch of scandal was involved. If she was from her "father's" side, there would be no mitochondrial relationship. |
