A few months ago the Washington Post had an article about the high death rates of pregnant women -- often, from being murdered by the father of the baby. It didn't seem to make much difference whether they were married to each other or not. The coming of an unwanted baby is still very likely to evoke rage in the man who fathered it. (He didn't know this could happen?) I thought, "This comes as a surprise? Obviously they don't listen to folk music." Sickening though, and disheartening, to realize how very often it still happens. There is an album of old ballads that Camsco carries, I think it's called "Traditional Ballads of Virginia." It is a great archive, but it contained so many disaster and murder songs, in such graphic detail, that I asked Dick if I could please swap it for something less depressing. :-)
