Actually, almost any dialect of "Austrian" is not intelligible to someone who speaks High German, but Austrians are taught High German as Americans are taught Standard English in school. The Edelweiss is, in fact, the Austrian national flower. Too bad for the Swiss there ;) (And I am actually Austrian, if you couldn't guess from my name.)
