Hi Sarah My nan (born 1905) sang this to my mum, my mum sang it to me and I did to my boys. The words I know are slightly different to yours. There is a tune to the verse that you have printed and then my nan would add another verse which was spoken rather than sung. These are the words I know Goodnight Mr Moon, we will have to go and leave you Goodnight Mr Moon, come again to see us soon And when we're asleep Through the window you will peep And we'll wake up and call out Goodnight Mr Moon Up and down the moonbeams bright Do the fairies dance all night? Nursie says "I'm sure they do" So of course it must be true In your starry nest Do you ever rest? Goodnight Mr Moon I have no idea of the origin but love the rhyme. My younger son, in particular, used to ask me to sing it every night when he was very young. I'm so glad someone else knows it too!
