Here's what I'm planning to do, if anyone wants to mimic or comment.

As a new iPod owner, I'm in the process of copying all my stuff onto the computer anyway. Once I replace the CD burner (d'oh!), I'll burn a backup CD for my files and then and then donate the original to this effort. (I'm assuming that my music will still be legal in the eyes of ASCAP given this approach.)

An additional thought about this effort: As non-profit entities, it might be good exposure for Adventure and the Portsmouth Maritime Folk Festival to have the CDs stamped "Donated by..." on the copies that go to each city's library. Depending on the response of our respective crews, we could even do a press release on this "campaign to preserve and share the heritage of these seafaring port cities."
