On a very old 78 recording - possibly Peter Kennedy / BBC vintage - "Charlie Bate and his Cornishmen" sang the following variant:

"Going down Camborne Hill going up.
Going down Camborne Hill going up.
The horses went round,
The wheels they stood still.
Going down Camborne Hill going up."

I heard this in the 1960's, in Exeter, and always include it when I sing the song.
