Some years ago I wrote an article for Glasgow's 'Sunday Herald' on the 50 best pubs in Ireland. It was graced by an introduction by the late Pete McCarthy whom I sadly never met. If you've not read it, Skarpi, I'd strongly suggest acquiring a copy of his book 'McCarthy's Bar'. The article's now very out of date and more than a few of the pubs have closed, but I'd be happy to send a copy to anyone who wants one - just send me a PM. I'll add Pete's introduction to the text.
