I have no reason to disbelieve what GG is saying. However, there are many factors which contribute to child poverty in the U.S. and Canada. None of them have to do with a shortage of wheat or potatoes. On the other hand, child hunger in the developing nations is only going to get worse because of the shortage of rice. Employment opportunities, access to daycare and education will not solve the immediate problem of a food shortage for the children 'over there'. I agree that the U.S. should pay more attention to domestic affairs and stop making development of other nations nearly impossible by waging war and destroying their infrastructure. I would like the candidates to address the problem of hungry children. The Iraq war is only a 'blip on the big screen'. Pulling out of Iraq may solve a short-term problem but it does not address the needs of the children in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq. What will we do to help these countries feed their children if there is no rice?
