>...coal gas was essentially Carbon Monoxide... Carbon monoxide itself is non-combustible, but is a byproduct (along with cyanogens, sulphur compounds and other nasties) of the distillation of coal. Coal gas contains approximately 50% hydrogen, 35% methane and 8% carbon monoxide. You can still gas yourself with 'natural' gas, but it works more by displacement of oxygen from the air you are breathing rather than by poisoning. Nice song, Dave!
