The riverside inns of Wapping are visibly flagging since the smoking ban. I went past the Prospect of Whitby (somewhere where you can get a decent pint of TT's Landlord in London) at 7.30 on a Friday night, and the place was deserted. Unfortunately, as a smoker I'm no longer likely to go sit in there and read my book or my paper anymore, or just go for a change of scene with my other Â½ (also a smoker). Since the smoking ban, the only time I've been in pubs is as part of a "night out," rather than as a "fancy a couple down the road?"
