GUEST,Tim morris dancing on tv (32) RE: morris dancing on tv 12 May 08

The comedian Stewart Lee tried to get a Morris side to appear in the pilot for a new sketch show he's doing and they refused, despite the sketch not actually ridiculing them, because they said they'd been pilloried too often on British comedy TV shows. This led Stewart (who had Morris dancers at his wedding) to ponder if the whole idea of finding them 'funny' maybe derives from an appearance on a 70s comedy show.
I couldn't think of any specific examples but the Dad's Army they showed this weekend could be a major culprit. Anyone have any specific memories from before then? Maybe a Dick Emery or a Benny Hill?
