This just popped up on the wires as I was reading my morning news sites.

From the Boston Herald:

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy has been hospitalized at Massachusetts General Hospital with stroke-like symptoms, several sources close to the family told the Herald this morning.

The eight-term Massachusetts senator and head of the storied Kennedy clan was stricken while at home in Hyannis Port early this morning, sources said, and rushed this morning around 8:30 to Cape Cod Hospital.

Kennedy, 76, was then wheeled on a stretcher to a MedFlight helicopter around 10:15 a.m. this morning, and the copter took off from Barnstable Municipal Airport for Boston and MGH, two sources told the Herald.

Family, friends and colleagues were closed-mouthed this morning as word of the ailment made its way through political and media circles.
