Stories like that are what depress me about the world--that a strong, beautiful, and talented woman dies an early death after such a life. However, these are also the stories that make me think about the gifts that I have been given, and the stories that make me want to do as much as I can to change things so someday, perhaps, no one will have to suffer like that. A lovely and inspiring tale.
The Roma all face particularly bad circumstances, though. Most live in poverty, with little or no English education. The illiteracy rate is still over 90%, I think. There is also a staggering amount of prejudice throughout Europe and even in the US. It's horrible.
