An incredibly strong and fit man. One of his party tricks was to open the front and back doors of his house, then stand outside the front with a cricket ball, which he would throw clean over the roof, run through the house, out of the back door and catch the ball before it bounced. When travelling with an orchestra by coach he frequently got out and ran to the place they were going to.
