Foulestroupe I am biased against accordions but only in as much they are one of the easiest instruments to play badly. I agree with your point that it's the player not the instrument - Karen Tweed for example blows my socks off. However, I still maintain that if you are not a good player, or new to the instrument, then you can cause a lot less aural damage with an english concertina compared to a piano accordion. Personally I would rather hear most songs accompanied on a concertina than an accordion, but then that is my choice. My original post reflects my personal tastes and the fact that I am an experienced melodeon player but in the end it's just advice and the reader can take it or leave it. Richard Ashe
