stormalong 'Open C' v 'Open G' guitar tuning (37) RE: 'Open C' v 'Open G' guitar tuning 03 Sep 08

Many thanks to those who've responded so far. Perhaps I should add a bit more perspective...

I'm really looking for a 'single solution'. I don't like all that retuning between songs. And the guitar is just one instrument that I might use to give listeners some relief from my unaccompanied singing. It's not something I'm going to be able to devote my life to.

I learnt most of the basic chords in standard tuning many years ago and I can fingerpick simple patterns over the top, but I never learnt the fancy bass-and-melody stuff used by people like Martin Carthy. I'm wondering where to go from here. Maybe I should just stick to what I know?

I don't mean to be facetious here or to disrespect those with real talent and dedication, but I'm looking for maximum effect for minimum effort, relying on my voice, such as it is, to carry me through.
