"Those less talented yoof are a bit intimidated by the talented, and by the older experienced crowd. "

(from a tunes session point of view) I think the younger talented lot are generally a lot more intimidating to other young people than the 'older' crowd in general. Younger people seem keen to show off complicated tunes played at breakneck speed as opposed to simpler tunes played well at a reasonable speed (which in my opinion usually sounds better anyway). Also young crowds can sometimes be quite cliquey.

Mind you I have met a few older people at sessions, who have been complete arseholes. I have received comments like 'you almost played that well' (and he meant it) and 'Im yet to hear any English tunes that are any good' (a bit general but aimed at me).

I was lucky enough to start playing in sessions at a fairly young age (14/15) alongside some very talented and experienced musicians, many of whom showed nothing but support and encouragement. 10 years later nothing really phases me and I'm still only a mediocre player!
