van lingle Tech: Guitar sounds too bright (43) RE: Tech: Guitar sounds too bright 21 Sep 08

D'Addario EFT17 Flat Tops are polished PB strings which the manufacturer describes as giving a warm, semi-bright tone. I've tried them in mediums on a couple of guitars and it seems to be the case. The thing I like most about them is they don't have all that new string jangle that usually takes a few hours of hard playing to eliminate. You can get them at Elderly for about $7.50 a set. Oh, and they're pretty easy to play, with less finger squeak (due to the polishing, I suppose).
Having said all that I gotta say I liked 'em on one instrument I put them on and not particularly on the other when they were first new but after playing in they both sound fine (to me, that is).vl
