Bill Adair & Bridgend Sessions Band   -   'Along the Miners' Rows'

'Along the Miners' Rows' by Bill Adair & Bridgend Sessions Band

Next year, 2009, marks the 50th anniversary of the worst mining accident in Scotland in the 20th century, when on 18 September 1959, smoke and fumes from an underground fire at Auchengeich Colliery in the small Lanarkshire mining community of Bridgend caused 47 miners to lose their lives. It was estimated that of the 100 or so miners' homes in Bridgend, 80% lost a relative in the disaster.

A special CD of original songs and music has been specially commissioned in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Auchengeich Colliery mining disaster on 18 September 1959.

Written by Bill Adair from Cumbernauld and recorded by the Bridgend Sessions Band, the CD is titled 'Along the Miners' Rows'.

All money raised from the sale of the CD will go into the newly formed Auchengeich Colliery Schools Trust which will finance an annual prize for the two primary schools in the area, Glenmanor Primary School and St. Michael's Primary School, Moodiesburn, near Glasgow.

The CD Album costs £8 plus £2 postage. Cheques made payable to 'Auchengeich Colliery Schools Trust' should be sent to: Bill Adair, Auchengeich Colliery Schools Trust, 31 Southfield Road, Cumbernauld, Glasgow G68 9DQ. Email enquiries address: mail@billadair.net
