Just one view of course. But having voted for Eliza Carthy in the two critics' polls in which I was invited to part, I found myself making Cara Dillon's Hill of Thieves joint best album of 2008. I might have done so for the sublime version of Spencer the Rover alone, but it really is a special album, much more traditional than I'd come to expect from her, with excellent contributions from the Lakeman brothers, including her husband. And I think her singing has acquired a little welcome grit. My runners-up include Bellowhead, Leon Rosselson, Maddy Prior and Chris Foster - the full list is at Salut! Live Anyone else want to chip in with their nominations?
