Mine is Healing Song, written by Charlie Murphy in 1978. Charlie lived in Philadelphia at that time, released an LP, which I have a copy of. A few years after that, he moved to Seattle, where he still lives, as far as I know.

At least one of Charlie's songs is in Rise Up Singing. This one, and some others of his are in the predeccessor to RUS, Winds of the People, also put together by Peter Blood and Annie Patterson. Back then, Peter, Charlie and I were all part of an urban network of communal houses with a focus on non-violent activism.

Sing the chorus first, in between, and after the verses. Let me or Max know if you want to hear this. My friends, who are coming to the Mudcat Radio Show NEXT week, know this, and can sing it a damn sight better than I could!

I'm copying the chords just as they appear in WotP. They should be what Charlie used because Peter would've gotten them right from him. Wish me luck with the line breaks, I'm gonna try it the html way!

Healing Song Chorus: And we'll sing a song to keep us warm
And celebrate the path we're on
There's healing in the singing of our songs
We'll all join hands to calm the fears
And hold on tight to cry the tears
In struggle and freedom we are one
Chords: D G / BM G / D A G A ://

People are your eyes open wide
Are your ears close to the ground
You can hear the rumbling neath our feet
Do you sense things turning round
We have decisions we have to face
In choosing the future we will let love erase all hate
Chorde: Bm D D - / G D A - :// G D G D /G D A -

People do you listen to your dreams
Do you hear what they're telling you
Did you know that together we have the power
To see our finest dreams come true
We have decisions we have to face
In choosing our future we will let love erase all hate

Charlie Murphy, (c) 1978
