You have puzzled me HuwG. Would it not be dangerous to have the only warning device working from exhaust steam? What would happen if steam were shut off and the loco was coasting along using no or very little steam and the driver suddenly needed to sould a warning? Indeed would there not be even more time delay with a superheated engine? Also were not the Britaninas fitted with chime whistles, was the Duke? Apple green would surely be an anthama to Darlington! Much too much Doncaster there!
