I believe the standard for most rational bankers is to finance no more than 90% of the appraised value of the house, unless there is gov't underwriting on the loan. By the time you figure closing costs, taxes, etc you should have 15-20% down. That is why a lot of people can't get refinanced when they find themselves in a negative equity situation. The new plan seems to address this problem, but we'll have to wait and see how it comes together. BHSC
