Subject: RE: Playing with Others From: Stringsinger - PM Date: 22 Feb 09 - 03:30 PM "Piers, a solo at a club might work if you are as good as Franz Bruggen. Otherwise, an accompanist is advised." I am afraid you are probably right. We played a couple of tangos by Carlos Gardel and she liked them and wants to work on them. I think they might go over well at a club, even if it's not the usual fare. Tango is very popular here, anyway, and his songs are very good. "Learning to play with others is a qualification for being a good musician." Er, I suppose so. I mostly haven't had the opportunity or didn't really push it when I did have people around me who were playing together. My last attempt to find people by putting up a notice was somewhat of a disaster. I did notice that sloppy counting (or not counting) does not work at all when playing with another person. I've gotten a bit lax in that respect. I often play songs by Antonio Carlos Jobim and other Latin American songs and one really has to count, so I do know better.
