Leadfingers - I appreciate it can be difficult to get a free function room for a folk club but just think "Market Forces". If a publican would rather have lots of extra drinkers even if they're in a function room; rather than an emplty pub, then you should be able to find a pub where you can 'do a deal'. Of course it would be hard on a Friday or Saturday when bookings are most likely, but if you're able to negotiate a "quiet night' in the week AND can have a bit of flexibility if the odd booking did come in on that quiet night - it should be OK. A Singaround club I visited last year moves to the CHurch Hall once or twice a year for that reason - but so long as you get reasonable notice then it shouldn't be much of a problem for a Singaround club.
