I cried when I saw all the references to this poem that my darling daddy used to tell me every night to help me sleep.... I thought I was the only person who knew it! I have/am passong it on to my darling grandchildren so they have the magic of it. I think the magic is the way it scans when you 'tell it' gently to a loved one? I am painting pages to go with the words for my grandchildren & they can pass it on to theirs! I woulds be delighted to hear from anyone who loved this poem in the 1950's!
