Strange as this may seem... I have several of these, some made out of tinned milk cans, some plastic ones made in Germany in the 1960's. Why? Because my grandfather made and sold them with considerable success on markets all over the Midlands, playing them along to gramophone recordings. They are still used by some shepherds to signal to their sheepdogs, and are capable of producing quite a pleasing musical sound. It has to be said, though, that Grandad's greatest business mistake was importing six thousand of the bloody things... I haven't seen one used in anger for years.
