Does anyone know anything about this song? I learned it when I was a Girl Scout in the 1950s to early 60s. I couldn't find any reference to it on the Internet. I finally made my own midi file of the melody. Part of my memory says the chorus might be, "Hi da lena" rather than "Hi da le dum". UPON THE ALPINE PASTURE (Hi Diddle Dum Dum) Upon the alpine pasture Stands a nice brown Hi diddle dum dum On the alpine pasture Stands a nice brown cow. Chorus: Hi da le dum, hi da le dum Hi da le dum, bim bam bo! Hi da le dum, hi da le dum Hi da, bim bam bo! Maid she would not milk her, Cause she was so Hi diddle dum dum Maid she would not milk her Cause she was so tired. (Chorus) Mother, I'd go dancing, But I have no Hi diddle dum dum Mother, I'd go dancing, But I have no shoes. (Chorus) Wear your father's slippers, Dance the whole night Hi diddle dum dum Wear your father's slippers, Dance the whole night long. (Chorus) Father will not lend them, Says I am a Hi diddle dum dum Father will not lend them, Says I am a cow. (Chorus)
