Because this thread became a general discussion about jazz and his roots I would like to mention The Halfway House Orchestra. The Halfway House was about mid-way between New Orleans and Lake Pontchartrain. Most prominent members of this great group have been leader Albert Brunies (cnt),Charlie Cordella (clt. and some saxes) and somewhat later Sidney Arodin (clt),accompanied by a fine rhythm section. Even today, it's a real pleasure to listen to tracks like "Squeeze me", "Maple Leaf Rag", "Snookum", "Since you're gone", "Wylie Avenue Blues" and many others. Albert (the brother of George) was a wonderful cornet player! Anybody aware of this formation? Manfred Manfred
