My mother was born near Pittsburgh PA in 1907. She would sing German lullabies to us when we were small. Her mother came from the Black Forest area and her father was Prussian. She sang this song in English and I find it surprising how closely the words match with other examples: My pigeon house I open wide and let my pigeons free They fly so high 'til they reach the sky and land on the tallest tree. And when they return to their merry, merry nest I close the door and I say goodnight Coo-loo coo-loo etc.
