Mom and Dad put in several "Knockout Roses" this spring and the first thing Dad asked as my feet hit the driveway, was to figure out what was eating them up. It appears they bought roses with rose slugs - the larva of a sawfly. I'd never heard of them and have never had problems with them. Dad is a "better garden through chemicals" kind of guy. He agreed to wait until I leave to apply it, but he is going to treat them with malathion (spelling?) Nasty stuff.
