two pennies'orth on this... I'm the tender age of 25 and run a thriving, wonderful, diverse, folk session near Luton in the UK. (see 'What's on in Herts/Beds' permathread and look for The Globe!!) I know lots of young people who enjoy the music, play the music and there is almost a reneissance of folk bubbling away at the moment....get the word out, make sessions more accessible. i think a lot of younger people have a misinformed view of the folk scene thinking it's all old farts in bad jumpers when clearly that is not the case, i'm a young fart in a very nice jumper indeed thank you :-)!
