Some of the comments above are founded in a misperception of how nations are commonly settled and founded. The Native Americans constantly fought over other tribes' land and property. Killing an enemy was a mark of respect, adulthood, and tribal loyalty. This is true of most aboriginal peoples today. Europeans were tribal, once, too. In fact, all humans. Native Americans were technologically outclassed as far as weapons go. What really tipped the scales were epdemics that may have been brought to the New World by Europeans, but were certainly more survival by Europeans due to prior exposure. As for Native American culture, if some people like Gilbert want to study and make native languages available to people, that's great. If his notion is to reintroduce it as the main language of his people he is barking up the wrong tree.
