86-year-old Danish accordionist hits fRoots Playlist!

I've known for a long time that having the privilege of being able to listen to - and dance to - the music of Danish accordionist Karl Skaarup is a rare treat, indeed. Now the fRoots Playlist has discovered him, too.

Karl Skaarup has been around for a long time. In fact, last year he celebrated his 80th anniversary as a performing artist, but it was only this year that he had his first CD out in his own name. This is the CD that fRoots have now discovered. I got the CD a while ago, and I can thoroughly recommend it. A couple of the tracks are available on his MySpace page. The CD was made in co-operation with young Danish fiddler Kristian Bugge, another cracking Danish musician, and the result is of the highest quality. Give it a listen, and hear for yourself. If anybody is interested in seeing what the dances for this music are like, there are a few videos available here, with Karl Skaarup playing the accordion.
