Doodles Weaver wasn't the only lovable lush in the Disney sphere. None other than Cliff (Ukelele Ike) Edwards, who sang what has become the Disney theme song, "When You Wish Upon a Star," was a self-destructive drinker. He had gone from being a hugely popular, first-rate star in vaudeville to a bit actor and sometime singer by the late 1930's and early '40's who had trouble finding work because of his erratic work habits. Taking a risk, Disney chose him for the Jiminy Cricket role in "Pinocchio" knowing his history and gave him a sort of artistic immortality, though few today even know his name.
