I do agree that Michael Portillo does come across in the manner previously described. The intersting bit for me is the photography which shows the superb variation of scenary in Britain. Visiting the places and industries that used to be. I especially liked the bit in Swindon when a man tells him it was Maggie Thatcher that closed Swindon works. There is a bit where he takes the credit for saving the Settle and Carlisle line without diminishing the work of the S&C preservationists and I remember the fight to keep the line open well and it was Portillo who signed for his department to keep the viaduct open. |
