Cat's Calling Academy at Oxfolk Ceilidhs
a one-day workshop for callers of all abilities and a chance to get booked at Oxfolk
Sat 27th March 2010, Kennington Village Hall, near Oxford, OX1 5PG
10am - 6pm, £10

The event is open to all, from complete beginners to more experienced callers and the focus will be on calling for ceilidhs. In the morning, discussion groups will be lead by the well-known callers Roger Watson and Will Hall, and musician Simon Care, covering topics such as different calling styles, handling particular figures, working with bands and efficient calling. In the afternoon, there is a chance to call (and do some dancing), with music will be provided by the marvellous melodeon player Simon Care and friends. Throughout the day, Cat Kelly will also talk to all those attending in a one-to-one session, to find out more about they would like to do if they are chosen to call at Oxfolk. (Bands already confirmed for next season include Random and the Ran Tan Band.)

Cat is looking for callers with a range of experience to book for Oxfolk, so please come along whether you have never called a dance before or whether you are already a seasoned caller. Equally, if you want to get more of an insight into calling without putting yourself forward as a caller or if want to have a go at calling without the pressure of being booked for Oxfolk or if you simply fancy a chance to dance, you will be very welcome.
