Thanks, MtheGM, I should have googled him. It does have a music-hall ring to it. What puzzled me is that the 'MacIntyre' certainly seems to be rhyming slang for 'Fire' but the rhyming slang is not particularly Irish; usually Cockney or (in my experience) Australian. Perhaps in America there is a tendency for many drinking songs to make it into the 'Irish' song repertoire. Pubs certainly seem to be the main place I hear most of these songs.
