MtheGM: I am interested in learning the background of songs that I like; as I noted above, I did not think it was Irish but it seems to be a part of the standard Irish repertoire in the U.S. and I wondered if there is any reason for that other than that Irish songs are often sung in pubs and so many drinking songs make it into the 'Irish' repertoire.
