Pupils have 13 weeks holiday a year. Surely that's enough. It is more expensive to book a holiday during the school holidays. Most schools allow pupils to take an extra 2 weeks a year. Pupils and parents treat this as a right, not a concession. I think people who abuse this are encouraging their children to think that school isn't important - or encouraging them to truant. People who work in schools have to take their family holidays during those 13 weeks. I don't just mean teachers, some of whom can afford it. I mean cleaners, dinner ladies and other people who work in schools, many of whom are on a basic minimum wage.
