Hey Kids! Let's start another thread to define folk music!

Rap is, or will be some day, folk music, even though it's not my folk music.

And Alice, rap is defintely singing. It is words sounded with pitch, tone, and rhythm, there's no question of that.

Does anybody remember the opening number in the musical "The Music Man?" All the salesmen were on a train and they rapped to the rhythm of the wheels. It had to be the first rap song ever. I was in that show and that scene about ten years ago and I remember it as one of the most difficult and challenging songs I've ever sung. We had entire rehearsals devoted to that one number.
