BlueJay Chord Req:Steve Goodman-Six Hours Ahead of the Sun (5) RE: Chord Req: Steve Goodman-Six Hours Ahead of the Su 03 May 10

Mike--

Here you go. Keep in mind, this is my interpretation, so YMMV. I hope you have a recording of this song to listen to, to help with timing and all. I think it's on a few of his albums.

I must say that although you're a "relatively awful guitar player", I see a lot of hope for any young person who is an avid Steve Goodman fan. He has so much great material, and you can really learn a lot both instrumentally and vocally. Keep it up!
My best regards, BlueJay

Six Hours Ahead Of The Sun--Steve Goodman

Intro: D--A--D-F#-Em, G--A
                D         G                A
One more night in a transatlantic city
               G                        D                      A
And the clocks all run on someone else's time
                G                                     D
And the streets run so close to the houses,
         G                   Em       A
But none of them run into mine.

             Bm             G          D
And the people are all in a hurry
               Bm             G       D
And the whiskey's as cheap as the beer.
                G                                     D                G
And that skyline looks just like that postcard I sent you,
          Em         G                           D
And darling, I wish that you were here.

    F                              C
Some folks travel for pleasure
         F                                    C
And other folks just born to roam.
F                                           C
Some folks can't stand the pressure
Emaj                                           A
And some of them never come home.

         D         G                A
And I only go where I have to go
            G                D                     A
And I only come home when I'm done.
               G                                           D                   G
And if everything's right, then I'll be home Friday night,
D             A                D
Six hours ahead of the sun.

(INSTRUMENTAL, LIKE THE INTRO)
                   D             G                  A
One more night in a transatlantic city
                   G                         D               A
And you buy one round for everyone in sight

                   G                                           D
And you order up the same old glass of trouble
         G                        Em                   A
But trouble just don't taste the same tonight.
               Bm                   G                      D
And the local bartender tells you all the stories
                Bm                G                         D
And the local lovelies dance before your eyes.
                   G                                             D   G
And they call that dance old "Younger's Tartan"
            Em                     G                      A
And I can't get all this mud out of my eyes.

    F                                             C
Some folks drink when they're happy,
    F                                           C
Other folks drink when they're dry.
   F                                        C
Some folks drink so they won't have to think
          Emajor                               A
And some other drink until they die.

          D          G                         A
But drinking just gives me amnesia
             G               D                         A
But the devil has a list of those who run.
          G                                       D               G
Run, win, place, and show, and nowhere to go,
          D             A             D
And six hours ahead of the sun.
          G                                     D             G
Run, win, place, and show and nowhere to go,
          D               A                F-C-D
And six hours ahead of the sun,

F    C    D
Six hours…… repeat & fade
