Does anyone recall a busker by the name of Tony Harty? Tony (credited as Tony Hicks) appeared alongside Don Partridge, Meg Aikman and Jumping Jack Norris in a little-known 1968 pop film called 'Popdown'. In the film, Tony is seen performing with Meg and Jumping Jack on the streets of London while an unknown musical tribute namechecking both is played over the top. The song is clearly a field recording featuring a vocal accompaniment by Meg - the Queen of the Buskers - herself. It begins with the lines: "In London town, In London town, Where there's nowhere else can be found..." Two time-coded screenshots, taken from a heavily truncated 25m edit of the film found at Contemporary Films in London last year, can be viewed here: http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.editAlbumPhoto&albumID=1748913&imageID=26886805 I am anxious to learn more about Tony and the mystery composition as part of my ongoing researches into the film.
