"A couple of months ago, it was reported that the powers that be had decided to ban the annual cheese rolling competition at Coppers Hill, Gloucestershire. The reason given was that after 400 years of broken bones and cracked heads, the event was no longer deemed safe." To be fair, I thought that the reason for cancellation was nothing to do with H&S fears about the event itself but because it had got so popular and well-known that many thousands of people (and vehicles) were turning up from all over the country and beyond, which had become a headache for the committee organising this previously small local event. Nowt to do with stopping the actual runners from cracking their own heads open.
