Jimmy Dean was one of the last of the "crossover" country entertainers who was as popular in his day with general audiences as with Opry fans. Others who come to mind are Tennessee Ernie Ford and
Eddy Arnold. Early television made good use of them and all became household names. Sausage came later. RIP
