It sounds like the 'Pack Horse' reference must be to the Boar's Head. It is a little out of the way but is the town's main 'folkie' pub, hosting a session on the second Saturday of every month and an open mike on the third Wednesday. There are also folk bands on on some Saturday nights throughout the year.
And it was where the idea for the festival was first mooted all those years ago.
