Hello everyone, Will Hampson and I have been running the 'yoof klub' for the last two years at Whitby Folk Week. I just wanted to flag it up because a lot of parents said they had been unaware of its existence until they saw the showcase on the Friday. Basically, it's aimed at youngsters who are getting too old for the children's stuff and gives them a chance to come and meet other youngsters in a more grown up environment without parents!(and gives parents a break for a while!!) It takes place at the Whitby Mission Hall from Sunday 22nd to Thursday 26th from 3pm - 5pm and is a series of progressive dance, song and music worshops culminating in a yoof klub performance at the Friday showcase in The Pavillion(exact time to be arranged but somewhere between 12 and 4 usually). Sunday, Monday and Tuesday we have guests including Keith Donnelly, Gog Magog Molly, Gaorsarch rapper and step, The Askew Sisters, 422, who will come and teach us a variety of skills, then the following days, we'll pool it all together and come up with a performance that we'll work on on Wednesday and Friday. Although it's progressive, day visitors are more than welcome to attend, as long as they realise that towards the end of the week, the focus will be on the showcase performance. We're never quite sure how the performance will end up as it depends who attends and what ideas are thrown in, but everyone is welcome, whether you're already a dancer, singer or musician or if you've never done anything like this before. The more the merrier! Just give me a shout if you want to know more and spread the word! Thanks, Bryony Oh, and musicians, please bring your instruments!
