Further to another much earlier posting, Duke Street and High Street do indeed meet, as a crossroads just north of High Street Station, and rather to the south of the Royal Infirmary and Cathedral. Sections of the old prison wall also remain, and I've been told, many years ago, that bullet holes/damage can be seen. The lyrics given above would easily fit to the air of "The Smashing of the Van" (Manchester...), as I suppose we'd expect.
