The Tinkers were one of the four English (or English based) groups who were chosen to take part in the 1966 Kilkenny Beer Festival's folk group contest. In those days they were Mick Flynn, Gerry Fox and Maureen Kennedy Martin. The other three groups were the Teesside Fettlers, the Kerry Singers from Coventry and the Biddles from Poole.
